I am so excited about this winter blueberry farm engagement session at Olde Carthage Farm in Carthage, North Carolina. It is sometimes difficult to find a pretty location for photos during the winter in North Carolina. The leafless trees and dead grass don’t make for very romantic photos. When Marliese let me know that she and Bredell wanted to have their engagement photos taken in late December, I knew that I had my work cut out for me to find a romantic location at that time of year. Luckily, I live down the road from an old blueberry farm. It’s beautiful in the spring and summer, and amazingly, it’s absolutely beautiful in the winter as well! While most of the local trees are colorless in December, the blueberry bushes we a beautiful shade of red and still retain some of their small red leaves. This farm also has a small lake, which is a feature that Bredell had requested for their photos. The amazing owners of this farm graciously let us use their farm for the photos, and I am so glad they did!
Despite the cold weather, Bredell and Marliese had amazing chemistry with each other. You can tell that they are best friends as well as lovers. They are also ridiculously photogenic! Marliese brought a blanket that her oma had made for her. It was such a sweet addition to the session and probably made this chilly session a bit more comfortable! We can’t wait for their upcoming fall wedding at Vizcaya Villa.
I hope you enjoy these photos!
I hope you enjoyed the photos from this winter blueberry farm engagement session as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Maryanne and Nate’s autumn Cape Fear Botanical Garden wedding was filled with sunflowers, family and love. This venue is absolutely beautiful, and we were so honored to be chosen as the photographers for this fun-filled affair. Maryanne was radiant in her A-line gown. Nate looked absolutely handsome in his dress blues. They were a perfect couple. Their wedding took place on a day with perfect weather. The ceremony was near a white pavilion under an arbor covered in sunflowers (Maryanne’s favorite flower). Maryanne and her father walked to meet her groom to the music of a bagpipe. The reception was held in the stunning Grand Hall which Maryanne’s mother had beautiful decorated with candles and sunflowers. There were laughter, tears, dancing and drinks to follow.
The venue for this wedding was Cape Fear Botanical Gardens in Fayetteville, NC. This place is quickly becoming one of our favorite places to photograph. There isn’t an area in the whole garden that isn’t absolutely beautiful. The fantastic DJ, Five Star Entertainment, kept everyone out on the dance floor THE ENTIRE NIGHT. They also provided the planning and uplighting. These guys do it all and are a pleasure to work with! Macri Mang Cakes created the beautiful sunflower covered cake. The little sunflower cupcakes were adorable! The delicious food and drinks were provided by Pierro’s. All of these vendors worked together to create an amazing affair that Maryanne and Nate will remember for the rest of their lives. This was an amazing wedding, and it was REALLY difficult to pick out just a few photos to share with you all, so I probably am posting too many…
I hope you enjoyed the photos from this Autumn Cape Fear Botanical Garden Wedding

Keri and Will’s downtown Raleigh engagement session is one of my absolutely favorite photo shoots. I love love love this couple of lovebirds!
This session included some of my favorite things; cobble stone streets, a visit to a local brewery, and perfect iighting. Keri told me before the shoot that she didn’t think she was photogenic (Of course this turned out to not be true at all). This is my absolute favorite kind of client, because they are so easy to direct. I can also completely relate to these feelings because, real talk, I feel the same way. I’m completely comfortable behind the camera, but put me in front of the camera and all of a sudden I feel super awkward. I forget what I am supposed to do with my hands. I have found that the only way to get past this is for me to mentally confront these feelings and then embrace them. Once you are able to acknowledge that it is going to feel a bit uncomfortable at first you can start to embrace the awkwardness.
Keri is absolutely gorgeous, and Will is so obviously smitten with her! It is so much fun to work with two people with such obvious chemistry. They are completely at ease with each other, and their photos reflected that. They rocked their engagement session, and I can’t wait for their August wedding! I am so excited to share some of my favorite photos from this gorgeous downtown Raleigh engagement session!

Kelly and Justin’s country chic barn wedding took place on a fall day at Lu Mil Vineyard in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. The leaves on the grape vines were just turning golden and offered an amazing backdrop for a perfect day. There wasn’t even one cloud in the sky. Kelly has to be one of the sweetest, most layed back brides that we have had the privilege to work with! She was so ready to marry her sweetheart, Justin. You could also tell that Justin had a soft spot in his heart for Kelly. His eyes would just light up when we looked at her.
We were thrilled to be working with a fantastic group of vendors for this lovely barn wedding. The ceremony and reception both took place in an old barn at Lu Mil Vineyard. The barn was filled with antiques that added to the country feel, and the strung lights added a fairy-light glow that was absolutely beautiful for the pictures. The event planner, Jordan Larmay with Unveiled Design and Events, created an event that flowed seamlessly the entire evening. Like any southern country wedding, the food was comfort food complete with bbq and southern sides which was provided by Mission BBQ. The DJ was Sanford Sound and Light who provided fun music to keep the party going.
Kelly and Justin’s wedding was a blast to photograph, and we were so honored to be able to do so. We hope you enjoy our selection of some of our favorite photos from the evening!
Sometimes during the wedding season, we get so bogged down with shoots and editing that we don’t get around to blogging all of the amazing-ness that we have been photographing. This wonderful engagement session at Cape Fear Arboretum and downtown Fayetteville is one of those sessions. It’s so much fun going back and reliving the sessions a few months after they happen! I had forgotten how much fun this session was, and I smiled the entire time drafting this blog post. Devon kept us laughing the entire shoot, and Miranda was absolutely adorable. We were able to use not just the Arboretum, but also some of our favorite locations in downtown Fayetteville, the train depot, Cameo Art House Theater, and Rude Awakening Coffee Shop. Devon and Miranda’s wedding is going to be so much fun to photograph!
I hope you enjoy some of my favorite photos from this engagement session at cape Fear Arboretum and downtown Fayetteville as much as I enjoyed gathering them.
I am so excited to share some photos from this beautiful Charlotte Boardwalk Engagement Shoot! Though their wedding is taking place in March in Fayetteville, they wanted their engagement shoot in a place that they frequently explore together in their hometown of Charlotte (at times playing Pokemon Go, which of course we had to incorporate into the shoo!). The Charlotte Boardwalk was a perfect location for a fun and playful engagement shoot
Although weather channel had only given us a pretty low probability of rain, Leigh and I drove down to Charlotte in some of the heaviest rain that I have even driven through, praying that it would blow over in time for the shoot. When we arrived it was STILL pouring. Poor Sheena was sitting in her car with Quentin watching the thunder storm wash out all of her chances of having her engagement shoot take place that day. I’m sure she was disappointed, I know we were! We agreed that we would wait 15 minutes then make the call on the weather. Just at the 15 minute mark, the storm cleared.
Our patience was rewarded with one of the most beautiful sunset conditions that I have ever photographed in. Quentin and Sheena are so incredibly natural together! Their beauty and love really made our job easy and we seriously love these two lovebirds! And I can’t wait for the wedding. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite shots from this amazing Charlotte Boardwalk Engagement Shoot:
Quentin and Sheena, thank you so much for choosing us to be your engagement and wedding photographers!
Gabriella and Quentin’s wedding at Vizcaya Villa was one of the most meticulously planned and glamorous affairs that we have had the honor to shoot as of yet. Ever since shooting their “GQ” engagement session, we have been looking forward to this wedding because we knew it would be AWESOME. The wedding took place on a perfect fall day at Vizcaya Villa in Fayetteville, NC. Gabriella sparkled in her beautiful, designer gown from Bridal’s by Lori (From “Say Yes to the Dress”). There was so much love and tears (the good kind) and laughter to go around. And the after party was a blast! It was really hard to narrow down photos for the post, but here is my attempt. Gabriella and Quentin, thank you so much for choosing us to be your photographers and we can’t wait to share the rest of the images with you!

Jana and Caleb are two of the sweetest people that we have gotten to work with. Their wedding at the picturesque L’abri at Linwood was a perfect fit for a farmer and his bride. Every detail of their ceremony was a beautiful reflection of who they are as a couple, from the bagpipes playing in the background to having their mothers plant their first tree for them and then watering it together.
We are so thankful that they have allowed us to photograph their wedding. It was a pleasure. We hope that they can look back fondly on these pictures for many years to come; and relive this happy day every time they see them.

Alex and Billy’s special day took place on a beautiful southern afternoon at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. We absolutely love this couple and this wedding. Ever since they rocked their downtown Fayetteville engagement session, we knew that their wedding was going to be one for the books.
We weren’t disappointed. The afternoon started out looking like their lakeside ceremony could be rained out. Alex wouldn’t hear of it. She insisted that there would be sunshine for her wedding. Even though she and her bridesmaids got ready to the sound of distant thunder, by the time guests started arriving the weather was clear. You could see that Billy adores his new bride and Kyleigh loves her new step mother. This was one of the best days of their lives, and we felt so honored to be there to witness it. They finished the evening surrounded by so much love from their family and friends. Seriously, their after-party was a blast.
It’s REALLY hard to condense 8 hours of wedding photography into one blog post, but here is my attempt at it. I hope it gives you a taste of the love and the joy that we experienced.
Billy and Alex, you wedding was amazing. We can’t wait for you to see all of your photos! We love you guys and wish you many years of happiness together.

This was a very special wedding for me, because it was the wedding of two of my favorite people. Lydia and Mark’s wedding couldn’t have been sweeter or more filled with happiness (with an occasional tear or two). It took place on a beautiful spring evening in a sunshine filled glen in the mountains of North Carolina. Everything about this wedding reflected the Mark and Lydia’s personalities. It was sweet, simple perfection.
Without further ado, I’ll let the pictures tell you the story of their special day.
Mark and Lydia,
Thank you for letting me take part in such a special moment in your lives. I hope you love these pictures and that they bring back all of the emotions that you felt on your wedding day. Be on the look out for your cd in the mail!
Alex and Billy are two pretty special people. You can tell, just by meeting them, that these two have beautiful souls. It’s so amazing seeing what happens when two people who are obviously so compatible, get together. They are so at ease with each other and the afternoon that we spent with them was filled with laughter and a whole lotta’ love
Enjoy some of the highlights from our trek around downtown Fayetteville.
Alex and Billy, we LOVED documenting your love for each other. And we can’t wait for the wedding! Be looking in your mailbox for your cd…
Leigh & Melissa
I love this engagement shoot for so many reasons, not the least of which because it features my beautiful sister in law and her handsome fiance.
(Aren’t they cute!?)
Lydia and Mark are over-the-top crazy about each other. I get to hang out with a lot newly engaged folks, but I can tell that these two have something really special. We got to do the engagement shoot at the mountain home of one of their family friends, and this place was ridiculously picturesque. This is also where the wedding is going to take place. I can only imagine how beautiful it is going to be when spring has officially sprung.
Since they were “engaged” but he had never actually gotten down on one knee and proposed, of course we had to incorporate a proposal into our afternoon.
(spoiler alert – she said yes!)
I think she gets this look a lot.
I can’t get over how gorgeous this land was.
At the end of the shoot it started to snow/sleet. We took advantage of that, and got my favorite shot of the day –
Lydia and Mark, I love you guys and I had a blast! I am so glad you were our first engagement shoot of the year; and Mark, I’m so excited to welcome you to the family.
We have had a fantastic year. 2015 has stretched us in, albeit uncomfortable ways at times, exciting ways. We have made our missteps along the way, and there is always room for improvement. But, we know that we are headed in the right direction. We are so grateful for the kindness and support that we have received from the people who we are so very lucky to call “our clients.” And of course, we are grateful for the love and support that we get everyday from our families.
We are extremely excited to see what 2016 will bring to us. I (Melissa) will be starting my sophomore year of college, working towards my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. Leigh is starting her 2nd year in college working towards her Bachelors of Art in Visual Arts.
We love looking forward, but it’s always good to look backwards at times as well. So, without further ado, here are some of the highlights of 2015! Enjoy!
We absolutely love this bride. Kristina is absolutely beautiful, and is a wonderful hair stylist. As you can imagine, when a hairstylist plans a wedding, the hair and makeup is going to be flawless. Kristina and Mark, we were so honored to be able to capture your special day. Here are some of our favorite shots, enjoy.
